hen you are passionate about what you do, it's no longer just a job but a vocation. That's how Siew Heng puts it.
Talk about mechanical systems and Siew Heng’s eyes light up. He goes on to share with you his experience in the mechanical engineering works of Civil Defence shelters in stations along the upcoming Circle Line. His work involves all mechanical services, including the environmental control and fire protection systems as well as the water service, sanitary & drainage systems. He has been involved in this project since the inception of the Circle Line back in 2002.
18 years ago, Siew Heng came to Singapore from Malaysia on an NTU Scholarship majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He had since completed
Master degrees in Management, Business Administration, and Civil Engineering (Environmental Engineering). He is also a Professional Engineer (PE), Registered ASEAN Engineer, Registered APEC Engineer and a regular invigilator at the PE Board’s Examinations.
Despite his busy schedule, Siew Heng still finds time to mentor new entrants into the construction industry. What’s his advice to aspiring engineers? “Think through what you want to do, get feedback from those in the field, be humble, prepare for failures, learn from them and work really hard. Knowledge and experience do not come overnight.”
“Above all, to be a competent PE, be good at what you do and do it with Passion - with a capital “P”, adds Siew Heng.
