BCA-Meinhardt Scholar
Mechanical Engineering, NTU
espite her small stature, this feisty scholar is a force to be reckoned with and can easily hold her own in a male-dominated environment.

“I was always known as a bit of a Tom Boy, and in fact it was my mother who suggested I enter a career that is typically male dominated,” laughs Shek Lin.
  It's Not Just A
Man's World...
Stumbling and finding a firm foothold is part of the learning process. It just makes me even more determined to suceed.

So why mechanical engineering? “My academic counsellor at college advised me to take up engineering because of my good grades in maths, physics and chemistry, and my strong analytical skills,” explains this second-year NTU student.

Shek Lin realises that what she learns on her degree course will be the basics and that most of her experience will come from learning on the job through team work. “I am really grateful to Meinhardt for giving me this opportunity to pursue mechanical engineering as their scholar.

At NTU, Shek Lin is still leading the way. She is presently the cheerleading captain of her halls of residence, an activity that further strengthens her leadership skills. “It is such a cool sport which requires a lot of team effort, spirit and determination and we won the inter-hall competition last year!” she enthuses. With this scholar's winning attitude, there is no doubt she will succeed, man's world or not.
